The controversial work and life of Mel Gibson

Mel Gibson is one of the most famous actors in Hollywood, and also one of the most controversial. He was born in 1956, and since getting into acting is best known for his action-hero movie roles. He is probably best known in his early career for his work in the Mad Max films and, later, his portrayal of Scottish folk hero William Wallace in his film Braveheart.

His first starring role on screen was in the World War 1 drama film Gallipoli, in which he won the award for Best Actor. This awarded was granted by the Australian Film Institute. He earned a reputation for being a versatile actor. He won’t the academy and golden globe awards for Best Director on his film Braveheart. Later he produces The Passion of the Christ, a movie that was commercially successful but also highly controversial for its portrayal of Jewish people.

He has had several legal issues and leaked statements to the public that were considered highly controversial. His controversial statements turned many away from him, and his career began to be affected.

He has been known for having an alcohol abuse problem and admitted that he started drinking at the age of 13 years old. When arrested for drunk driving in California, he notoriously questioned as to whether or not the arresting officer was Jewish and said that Jews were “responsible for all the wars in the world”.

Gibson was blacklisted in Hollywood for a decade before other stars advocated for forgiveness. His 2016 film Hacksaw Ridge received acclaim, and after that many were willing to work with him again.

In many ways, Gibson has shown remorse for his actions and the statements he has made. Some people can never forgive him, and that’s understandable. Many others can separate the art from the artist.
